If you missed the exhibition in Leipzig or would like to learn more about the ideas behind the exhibition 'Human, All Too Human' touring to Nuremberg in September, this 64-page catalogue is the ideal starting point. It contains 34 full-page illustrations of Lenkiewicz's work, some never before seen in print. There's an introductory essay by exhibition curator Francis Mallett; an essay by writer and art critic Mark Gisbourne, which places Lenkiewicz's work in an art historical context; and an essay which draws out the links between Lenkiewicz's ideas and those of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. (Size: 210 x 197 mm. Paperback.)
Priced at just £10.00, plus £2.00 postage, the catalogue is available direct from the Foundation on 01752 221450 or on our eshop. A German language edition is also available.
The Lenkiewicz Foundation, Plymouth College of Art and Fotonow are pleased to announce a partnership, which will revisit Lenkiewicz' seventeenth Project – Observations on Local Education (1988) – 25 years after it closed to the public at the painter’s Barbican studio. Professor Adrian Thatcher (above), one of the major contributors to Project 17, discussed the Project's legacy at Plymouth College of Art on Thursday 31st October. A transcript of his talk is available here.
Project 17 was Lenkiewicz' most ambitious "sociological enquiry by visual means", with 150 works shown first at Chilford Hall, Cambridge in 1987 and then at the artist's Barbican studio in 1988. Over 240 academic professionals, education administrators, headmasters, teachers, parents, and pupils contributed their own notes to the Project, all of which... more
Due to its overwhelming success, Human, All Too Human – the exhibition of paintings by British artist Robert Lenkiewicz is extending its exhibition programme. The show, which closed at The Spinnerei in Leipzig on 21 July, will transport all 100+ works to Nuremberg for an exhibition at Auf AEG opening 14th September and running for 1 month. The show begins at 1pm local time with an introduction by the mayor of Nuremberg, Dr. Ulrich Maly.
The Lenkiewicz exhibition will contribute to an exciting programme of events running on the site, a huge development of 168,000sqm. 90 artists working there will stage a group exhibition and open their studios to the public. A highly anticipated exhibition of works from The Artist Pension Trust (APT) collection and the opening of The Gallery of The Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg will guarantee regional and national attention. The Open to AEG weekend, an annual event, is expected to attract around 20,000 people in 3 days.

Louise Courtnell's demonstration on tonal painting technique (13 July 2013) at The Spinnerei was well-attended on the day that more than 300 visitors came to Halle 12. Painters Diane Nevitt and Rayk Goetze were front and centre for the event as Louise created a portrait of volunteer sitter Heide Bernhöft-Hansche (see Photo).
We have a large album of exhibition photos in the relevant section on this site or on our Facebook page.
On Sat 13 July 2pm - British painter and former student of Lenkiewicz, Louise Courtnell will be demonstrating Lenkiewicz's renowned technique for teaching aspiring artists the essential methods of figurative painting, which he called "the tone of the tone, the shape of the shape, the colour of the colour". The event will take place in the Werkschau Halle 12.
The demonstration will be similar to the tonal study session at the Royal William Yard in 2012. You can see a video of the RWY event here: watch video.
Every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 1300hrs (1pm) one of our knowledgeable gallery guides will be conducting a tour of the exhibition Menschliches, Allzumenschliches (trans. 'Human, All Too Human') giving a brief introduction to the life, work and ideas of Robert Lenkiewicz (in English).
